Just another fun mid-week post, because I love sharing playlists with people. Check out these 20 songs and leave some more of your favorites in the comments! 🎵
20. “It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over” by Lenny Kravitz – This song is one of my all-time favorites. It’s from the early 90s, but it has such a sexy 70s kind of feel. Lenny is always a good choice.
19. “I Can’t Tell You Why” by The Eagles – This one may seem kind of random, but I love it. I love the integration of a soulful sound with rock. The instrumental at the end is everything! I’m not even sure how I discovered this song, but it’s been on my playlist since I was a teenager.
18. “Ebony Eyes” by Rick James ft. Smokey Robinson – Another one of those songs that integrates a bit of rock & roll with soul. And Rick could sing his face off! And adding Smokey was just icing on the cake. Random, but why is Smokey still fine at 110 years old?!
17. “Say So” by PJ Morton feat. JoJo- If you haven’t heard this, go now. Their voices together are like silk. And yall know I’m emo, so this one gets me in my feelings too!
16. “Find A Way” by Dwele – This song has been in rotation since I first heard it on BET. You cannot help but hit a 2-step on this one! It just makes me feel good.
15. “I Know” by Jay-Z – I don’t ever hear many people talk about this song, but I love it! It’s so smooth, and Jay-Z is one of my favorite rappers. You will definitely see him on this list again.
14. “You” by Jesse Powell – His voice is like butter. This is literally the definition of a wedding song. It gets no better. I’ve been straining my vocal cords to hit that last “You” forever.
13. “Facetime” by Tank – I discovered this EP during lockdown last year, and this song was SO appropriate. I listened to it almost every day. I definitely needed some facetime with somebody’s fine son!
12. Invisible Man by 98 Degrees – This was when they tried to market 98 Degrees as a white R&B group. It didn’t last, but this song is awesome. It is probably their best song next to “Because of You.”
11. “Can We Talk” by Tevin Campbell – You already know if this comes on at a black function, we are all about to kill this song. It’s just something about this song. Tevin is extremely underrated vocally and doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He was a sangin’ lil boy.
10. “Scarred” by Uncle Luke feat. Trick Daddy- Okay, hear me out… I can’t help myself when this comes on! And when this comes on, we ain’t twerkin’, we poppin’! If you’re old enough, you know the difference.
9. “Optimistic” by Sounds of Blackness – This song always pumps me up! And it reminds me so much of my childhood. Saturdays cleaning the house with the windows open!
8. “PYT” by Michael Jackson – My theme song! Nuff said.
7. “Ye” by Burna Boy – I am whining my waist as I type. I love Burna Boy! His music is always on point. I like to listen to this when I'm looking good and on my way out somewhere cute. It sounds so good in the car!
6. “Sent From Heaven” by Rahsaan Patterson – This was a random find on my Amazon music app. I fell in love with this song right away. Go check this one out!
5. “Lotus Flower Bomb” – Wale feat. Miguel – Wale is the truth, and he never disappoints. This song stays in rotation! Supposedly he wrote this about Solange, but I like to think it was about me.
4. “Never Too Much” by Luther Vandross – You can never go wrong with Luther! Big Luther or Little Luther, it doesn’t even matter. This song makes me so happy when I hear it!
3. “Love Ballad” by LTD – One of the greatest songs of all time. No question! You can absolutely find me belting this out in my car on the regular.
2. “Lose Control” by Silk – I loveeee Silk! Their vocals are always legit. When I get back into my piano lessons, I’m going to learn how to play this. Forget Beethoven!
1. “I Know You, I Live You” by Chaka Khan – Literally musical perfection, in my opinion! I want to take a ballroom dance class and do a routine to this song. Who wants to be my partner?!
First off, I love me some Smokey! And he looks good at any age and he surely is not 110! Love your list of songs. I was so excited to see Luther and Chaka on this list. Looking forward to checking out some of the songs I'm not as familiar with on your list. Another great read!
